New contract

I've just sold another book, an erotic romance novel that is going to contract with LIQUID SILVER BOOKS. The novel is called "Simply The Best" and is an action/adventure kind of story, with a team of mercenaries at the core of it. I hope you'll all wish me luck with this newest venture!! Also new in the pipe is a novella called "Royal Consort", which is high fantasy, with an erotic romance element, and I'm hoping to submit this to Amber Quill, if all goes well and they want it!!

FREE eBook Contest

Okay, starting this month, I’m going to offer a free copy of one of my eBooks to one of my readers. All you have to do is go to my website, www.bythunder.org/DenyseBridger and look over the available titles. Once you’ve picked a book you might like, email me with your name and email address, as well as the title you’d like. (There’s a direct email link on the website.) During the first week of each month, a winner will be randomly selected and announced, then I’ll send you the book in one of the following formats: PDF, MS Reader (LIT), HTML, KB, KML. Again, include the format you prefer, since I may have to contact the AQP business office for the right format for you. THANKS for participating!! Also, bear in mind at least for the moment that my webmaster is running behind and hasn’t updated the site for a couple of months, so the title REBEL HEART is not listed there yet. If you check earlier entries in the blog, there’s a promo for the book here, and if that’s your title of choice, it’s now available. The only titles not available for the contest at present are the trade paperbacks: MAVERICKS and A WORLD IN DARKNESS.

Rebel Heart promo

My newest release, the prequel to the REBEL KNIGHT serial story, will be available next week. It's called "Rebel Heart" and is the backstory for what unfolds in the first installment of the serialized story with Branscombe Richmond. The serial itself is being sponsored by the American Motorcycle Cmpany, and if you're at all curious about the motorcycles that are going to be used in the stories, you really should check out their website. (http://www.amc1902.com/) If you click on Branscombe's Corner, you'll find the pictures and stats about the bikes. First one we're using is the Apache Bagger, which is a really cool-looking motorcycle, even to someone like me who doesn't know anything about motorcycles!!
Here's an excerpt from REBEL HEART. If you like it, pop over to my website or the Amber Quill Press website on Sunday to order the eBook! (http://www.amberquill.com/)

...Francesca Daniels glared at the offending flat tire with enough ire to make it implode. This would be the day the damn car broke down. Her ever-reliable VW had at long last failed to bring her safely home, and in the worst possible weather. It was raining like the sky itself was dissolving, heavy drops pelting her until she was wet through to her skin. The spare tire was back at her house, having been removed specifically to give her more trunk space for supplies. An autumn storm was the last thing she’d been expecting that afternoon when she’d headed into the town of Carter Springs, Montana, about thirty miles from her remote ranch home.

She turned her baleful glower to the sky, searching with near desperation for a break in the churning gray thunderheads above her. No such luck. She’d have to lock up the car and walk. With at least five miles between her present location and home, she was not looking forward to the impromptu hike. Dusk was encroaching on what little light remained in the day, and the road was heavily wooded on either side. Her flashlight would be dead long before she reached the outer boundaries of her property. Leaving her car behind with several hundred dollars worth of provisions and art supplies wasn’t sitting well with her, either. Not that anyone would notice it. The road wasn’t what anyone would call well-traveled since the only thing at the end of it was the Daniels Ranch.

She was double-checking the Jetta when she heard the distant rumble of an engine. Panic leapt into her throat, the reaction involuntary. Squinting, she turned toward the noise and tried to stay calm. In less than a minute the rumble of sound became more distinct, and by the time a gleaming Indian motorcycle had made the turn and come into view, she was ready to bolt for cover.

There was nothing on the road, only her house, and her father’s a little farther down, so it made sense the rider was either lost or looking for her. Neither possibility pleased her overmuch. It didn’t occur to her that he might be looking for her dad; Tom Daniels wasn’t known for his social activity. Her heartbeat began to thump in her ears, deafening her for several seconds as she watched the polished and chromed bike pull off the road and come to a halt a few yards from her car. The rider balanced the bike on the kickstand and rose, the motion seamless and well-practiced. As he walked toward her, Frankie was struck by the sheer size and presence of the man. He was easily six foot three, and had long legs encased in form-fitting black denim that accentuated both the muscular shape and the length of them. He wore a black leather jacket over broad shoulders, and was removing his gloves to reveal strong, elegant hands. He stuffed the gloves in his pockets and reached up to take off his helmet.

Frankie’s breath left her lungs in a sudden, powerful expulsion, and she forgot to draw in fresh air for several moments of time. In those suspended instants, she was lost in awareness of the man who walked ever closer to her. Within the emerging twilight, he didn’t seem quite real, yet he was more real than any man she’d ever seen in her twenty-nine years of living. Ebony eyes sparkled with natural warmth, and the perfect planes of his face were framed by long, blue-black hair. His skin tone told of Native American heritage, and the smile that flashed over his striking features revealed even white teeth.

“Can I help?”

His voice was smooth, tone rich and silky, modulation exquisite. She shivered, and remembered to breathe when tiny sparks danced before her eyes, haloing him as though he were some sort of dark angel.

“I’ve got a flat, and my spare is back at the house,” she replied when his head tilted to one side, his expression quizzical.

“Why don’t I give you a lift then?”

Every nerve in her body screamed yes, and it scared the hell out of her. The part of her brain that wasn’t attuned to every sinuous line of his body was still capable of reason, even if it was to a limited degree. She chewed her bottom lip for a few moments and considered her options, pretending for a second or two that she had any real options.

“I’m Nick Red Cloud,” he said, raking a hand through his dripping hair, and shaking the water away before reaching toward her.

She took his hand and tried not to choke on the leap of response that the simple touch elicited from the inner core of her heart. She’d never met anyone who rattled her deeply, and this man was already making her customary reserve a thing of laughable scorn. His grip was warm and strong, and he held her icy fingers for a breath too long before he withdrew...

As Fate Decrees

AS FATE DECREES: A fantasy novel by Denysé M. Bridger

In an ancient world, the Fates decree that a Champion will soon be brought forth. A being both mortal and eternal, destined to become as legendary as the Gods to whom she will be forever enslaved. Of the twelve who rule on Mount Olympus, it is Ares, son of Zeus and Hera, God of War, who recognizes both the truth of the divination, and the one who has been chosen. In the slave markets of Athens, Ares finds his Champion and binds her to him. She is called Amarantha, and under the tutelage of the War God, she becomes a warrior with no equal. But she has yet to understand who her Master is, and what the Fates have woven as her destiny. And, Ares has yet to face another truth, that the heart of his chosen Champion and consort belongs to another—King Iphicles, the mortal twin of his half-brother Heracles. Thrown into a war that places her at the side of King Iphicles, Amarantha is unknowingly balancing the powerful forces of love and war. At the end of her battles, amid tragic loss and despair, she comes face to face with her Fate, and a choice must be made within the heartbeats that separate life and death. One the eve of a new millennium, as the year 1999 approaches its end, the Champion of Olympus is called forth by disciples of the Ancient Order of Zeus, and once again Amarantha must defend history and myth with her very life. But, as always, the Fates have patterned a complex image, one that traces its threads back to a mortal life so long forgotten it no longer seems real. Trapped in the modern world, Amarantha sees the soul of her beloved Iphicles in another man’s eyes, and the fulfillment of yet another prediction looms imminent. A prophetic foresight that may seal not only her Fate, but that of the Olympian Gods, and a madman determined to shape a new order of faith and vision that will dominate a planet and rewrite history…

New release and chat

The next release from Amber Quill is the final story needed to complete the ROGUES collection. This story, a mix of fantasy worlds and pirates, is called DAYNE and begins in the here and now, then moves into the realm of fantasy, spiced liberally with heated passion. The cover is like so many I've been honored to have on my work, a very striking image of a handsome hero, and the story begins:

It began several hundred years from now. Life conspires to take us where we are meant to be, even when we do not ourselves know the direction in which we are traveling. Thus it was that my uneventful existence began, and ended, with a single drop of blood, spilled unsuspectingly on a honed and gleaming pirate blade. In the now distant year of nineteen hundred ninety-nine, in the town of Avalon Inlet, somewhere in the hidden coastal regions of Northern Maine, I encountered the capricious Lady of Destiny. It is, even now, an incredible tale of adventure and, yes, of romance that is the stuff of dreams. My name is Elana, and if you will let me, I will tell you of my assignation with a magical and thrilling life forever altered by the whims of Fate.....

I hope you'll check out the story when it's available on June 1st, 2006. The paperback collection that will contain this one will be scheduled for later in the summer. My website should have an update when the times comes, and of course, I'll make the date announcement here as well!
Also, when the webmaster gets the updates done, and posts the new links, there will also be two new FREE stories, a short erotic Western, and a brief excerpt from my fantasy novel. Be sure to let me know what you think of them, okay? They should show up soon?!

Oh, and while we're talking about fantasy elements and stories, this is the invitation to a five-part series of tales that will all take place at a magical ball in Venice.

The Viscount Giovanni Colleoni invites you to attend a Midwinter’s Masquerade Ball to be held at The Palace of Dreams during the final weekend of January.
Travel tickets are enclosed. Upon your arrival in Venice, a carriage will attend you and transport you to the Palace.
R.S.V.P. via electronic post masquerade@palaceofdreams.ven

And so begins the trip of a lifetime for five people whose lives are about to change forever, including the chraming host of the ball. (Who just happens to look a lot like Lorenzo Lamas, by the way!)

News and stuff

Among other things, I've got a whole catalogue of erotic romances available from Amber Quill Press. A company I've been working with for almost two years now, after winning a coveted spot on their exculsive roster in the 2004 Amber Heat Wave contest. Being a huge lover of the American West, it seems only right that the winning story was a romance set in the Old West, with a gorgeous Federal Marshal as the hero. And for those of you who love to "cast" the hero the way I do, think Brad Johnson with a little Michael Biehn and Viggo Mortensen through into the mix, just to keep things interesting. (The story is A SAFER HAVEN)
I've been having a lot of fun exploring genres during the past couple of years, and if you like your romance varied and with a lot of sizzle and heat, you will most definitely find something to suit your tastes in the AQP catalogue. My personal page is a pretty impressive mix of titles. Vampires, Contemporary stories, Adventure, Historicals, both pirate and Westerns, and there's fantasy as well.

A few of the contemporary tales are available as a paperback collection. It's called MAVERICKS. One of the titles was part of the collection that was nominated for an Eppie Award this year.
The newest paperback available is A WORLD IN DARKNESS, which includes four erotic vampire tales. One of them, THE HUNT, was a company Best-seller when it was first released last year. It's dark and dramatic. Lots of reviews for everything are on the websites. With the exception of those for the newest vampire story, set in Pompeii circa 79 AD. A couple of the reviews are:

WHOM GODS HAVE FAVORED:
4 Kisses: As noted, the setting of Whom Gods Have Favored is the book’s strongest selling point. The research is evident, and Bridger’s characters are comfortable in their world. Lucius is immediately a strong, sensual character and his desire leaps off the page. Xina, on the other hand, is a little less well defined. She is introduced as a strong, take no prisoners heroine but seems to undergo a personality change when she enters Lucius’s household. I wanted her to show him that spark, because he seemed like a man who finds it both maddening and desirable, but instead Xina retreats into typical slave-girl mode almost immediately. While this is probably more realistic, it was a little disappointing. The attraction between them feels genuine, however, and though the introduction of the paranormal element is only peripherally connected to the main characters until the epilogue, it provided an interesting resolution to the story.Reviewed by Melanie Hayden, Romance Divas

4 Stars: Set during the time when Rome ruled the world, Whom Gods Have Favored gives us a glimpse of what life would have been like had we live in Pompeii before Mt. Vesuvius destroyed all. Much as I hated reading about the enslavement of women and the helplessness that ensued, it was definitely a part of life and Ms. Bridger did an excellent job of bringing that to view. I found myself loving Lucius, despite the fact that he was a male that was used to getting whatever female he wanted. I felt for Xina, in the fact that even though she was born into a brothel and subjected to naked men, she was an innocent in the true ways of the male, and she was just trying to survive life as a slave. There is a unique twist that takes the story in a whole new direction, and made for an interesting read. The story was a good love story that spanned the ages.Stacey Landers, Just Erotic Romance Reviews

4 Angels: Whom Gods Have Favored blends history, myth and fiction together to create a darkly sensual work of blood, lust, and death. Denyse M. Bridger will thrill and chill you with her apt capturing of the utter depravity of absolute power, even as she warms your heart with a tale of a passion that lasts eternally. I was sucked right into this story and it never let me go until the final word. Whom Gods Have Favored is the perfect blend of sex and power, made complete by a love that spans the ages.Reviewed by: Michelle, Fallen Angel Reviews

Not bad for a story I didn't even like much!! If you have any comments to offer, I'd love to hear 'em!

One of my on-going projects for Amber Quill is another Historical series. This one is set in Victorian London just after the Ripper murders. Inspector Michael Devane was part of that case, and being both a drug addict and a brilliant investigator has its problems. The first two cases take him back to Jack The Ripper and all the questions that remain to this day. The first book is called OUT OF HELL, and the immediate sequel is AN UNSPOKEN BETRAYAL. Both are due for release as electronic books, then as a paperback issue. Probably later this year. And, yes, there is an erotic element to the stories! Gotta have that romance, don't we?

For anyone who's interest in a serial story, one of my newest projects is a thing called REBEL KNIGHT. My partner on this is none other than actor Branscombe Richmond - if you've seen Lorenzo Lamas in Renegade, then you know who he is. If you haven't, find the show, it's wonderful!!

The final details of where it's to be posted haven't been worked out, but once I've got the URL, I hope you'll all check in and stay with us as the story progresses. The backstory is a lovely little erotica story that will be available from Amber Quill Press very soon. Check out my website, or the Press site for a look at the cover and a short excerpt.

Also in progress is my first Fantasy novel. Based on Greek Mythology, it's called AS FATE DECREES. It's been a busy year already, and it looks like things aren't gonna let up soon.
Hi, everyone!

Welcome to the Fantasy Pages. Let's have some fun, and I'll try to be available a little more than I am on the lists!
